The Story Behind Moifaa Farm

Just ten minutes from both Hamilton and Cambridge, Moifaa Farm is a tranquil countryside retreat tucked among mature trees and rolling paddocks in Tamahere. Set on a small working horse and cattle property, the farm offers the best of both worlds, peaceful rural living, with cafés, gardens, and attractions only a short drive away.

A SMALL WORKING FARM

The Moifaa Farm

Our home sits at the heart of a small working farm where cattle graze and racehorses are raised. It’s a calm, authentic piece of rural New Zealand, quiet mornings, big skies, and the gentle rhythm of animals nearby.

The land around the house has been shaped by hand into gardens that now overflow with life and colour, creating a haven for birds, bees, and visitors alike.

The Story Behind the Name

Moifaa was a New Zealand-bred racehorse with one of the most remarkable stories in sporting history. In 1904 he survived a shipwreck on his voyage to England, went on to win the Grand National, and was later purchased by King Edward VII.

He was bred by Kaaren’s great-great uncle, Spencer Gollan and when we bought our Tamahere property in 2021, we felt it only right to name the farm in his honour. His courage and endurance capture the spirit of the land we now call home.

Meet your hosts

A man and woman smiling and hugging on a dock by the water during sunset, with boats and a group of people in the background.

We’re Tim and Kaaren, and Moifaa Farm is our family home.

We built this space to share the calm, connection, and beauty we love with others. We live upstairs and are always nearby if you need anything, but we’re equally happy to give guests their space to unwind in privacy.

Our friendly dog, Archie, is often the first to greet you, a gentle, shaggy character who takes his unofficial role as guest liaison very seriously.

Why We Love This Place

For us, Moifaa Farm is more than a property, it’s a way of life. It’s evenings by the outdoor fire, mornings with coffee and birdsong, and watching the garden change with the seasons. We’re proud to share this small piece of the Waikato with others and hope you’ll leave feeling rested, inspired, and a little more connected to the land.
